I am a Chemical Engineer. I was working at a Wheat Flour Mill. I was laid off. I couldn’t find a job at another flour mill.
I had intenet at home. I learned to create web sites and I soon learned that I could use the internet and a web forum to teach online courses.
At that time I was interested on environmental issues. I created the Online Environmental Impact Assessment Course. For that course, I only used resources available online. It was then, 1999.
I soon learned that the course needed more online promotion so I created the Online Courses Newsletter to promote my own course and also feature other online courses.
The Newsletter became VERY popular. At one time it had 20,000 subscribers. I was not earning enough money, though.
Later I learned that promoting For Profit Online Universities was, at that time, an easy way to earn money. Now it is a very competitive market.
Since 1999, the internet has become more social, useful and fun for online teaching, learning and networking. I am very interested in Web 2.0 apps. and PLE (personal learning environment) for teaching and learning.
I have the Onlinesapiens Blog, and I created the College 2.0 community to feature online learning and network with Higher Education Faculty teaching online courses. Both give me the knowledge, background and connections with online teachers worldwide.
I created also the Go Back to College group at TeeBeeDee.com, a social network for adults, to help members of this community to continue their education, either benefit from online learning to earn a college degree, or just teach them how to use internet tools and resources for lifelong learning.
